From Learning to Leadership: Transforming Communities Through Service

The Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning’s mission is to connect the university to the greater community.  We cultivate local and regional relationships with non-profit organizations, government agencies, small businesses, and individuals to enhance student learning, while developing responsible citizens and serving the community.

Our office hosts the bi-annual GatorServe community wide volunteer event on September 11th and Martin Luther King National Days of Service. This event regularly gathers over 100 volunteers to provide impactful service to our community while also enhancing our students’ ability to “learn while doing” in a way that fosters ongoing civic engagement.

Additionally, our office provides paid internships for students of all majors to work in non-profit and civic settings. The goals of these internships are to enhance the academic learning and intellectual growth of students and to link student interest and skill sets with identified community needs and opportunities.

Beyond volunteering and internships, we also provide student mini grants for community projects, fellowships in civic engagement, and scholarships. Each of these activities strengthens our students’ civic values, improves the quality of life of our community, foster city harmony, and elevates the university’s regional impact.
